Best Time to Visit Kashmir

6 min read May 12, 2026 Demounts Team

Spring blossoms or winter snow? Here's how to time the perfect Kashmir holiday.

Kashmir changes completely with the seasons.

Spring (March–May)

Spring brings the almond and cherry blossoms of Srinagar into bloom and turns the Mughal gardens into carpets of colour. Gulmarg's meadows emerge from the snow and the weather is ideal for sightseeing — mild days and cool nights.

Summer (June–August)

Summer is peak season, when the valley is a green escape from the plains' heat. Pahalgam and Sonamarg are at their best, and the Gondola runs daily. This is the busiest (and most expensive) window, so book early.

Autumn (September–November)

Autumn paints the Chinar trees in gold and crimson — arguably Kashmir's most photogenic season. The crowds thin out and the weather stays pleasant until late November.

Winter (December–February)

Winter transforms Gulmarg into a world-class ski destination and Dal Lake sometimes freezes over. If you love snow, this is your window — just pack well and expect some road closures.

For most travellers, late spring and autumn offer the best balance of weather, scenery and value.
